Our Impact

Community-Driven Care for Older Adults in the San Luis Valley

At Alamosa Senior Center, we believe that every older adult deserves to live with dignity, purpose, and connection. Through wellness programs, nutrition services, social opportunities, and volunteer support, we’ve built a space where seniors are seen, supported, and celebrated. Our impact is made possible by dedicated staff, passionate volunteers, and the generosity of our community.

By the Numbers – 2024 Highlights

In 2024, we reached more than 300 older adults across Alamosa and the surrounding San Luis Valley. With just a small staff and modest budget, here’s what we accomplished:

  • 270+ fitness and wellness classes held
  • 10–15 participants per class, on average
  • 34,638 meals served to congregate and home-delivered participants
  • 229 meals served in December alone, when regional lunch service was reduced
  • 25 transportation rides for medical and essential errands
  • 700+ volunteer hours contributed by community members

These numbers tell a story of consistency, care, and commitment—especially in a rural area where seniors often face isolation and limited access to services.

The Human Impact

Behind every meal and movement class is a meaningful connection. Seniors come to the center not only for services, but to laugh, learn, and belong. Volunteers aren’t just helping—they’re forming friendships. Donors aren’t just giving—they’re sustaining wellness and joy in the lives of their neighbors.

Serving a Growing Senior Population

According to the Colorado State Demography Office, Alamosa County expects nearly a 20% increase in adults aged 65+ over the next five years. That means even more demand for:

  • Nutritious meal programs
  • Social and recreational activities
  • Transportation to vital services
  • Preventative health education
  • Community-based support

We’re already responding to that growing need—while remaining committed to inclusion, accessibility, and compassion in every service we offer.

Fueled by Community Support

Our annual budget of just ~$160,000 is funded by a mix of local government contracts, grants, memberships, and community donations. In 2024, program costs exceeded income by nearly $70,000, highlighting how critical unrestricted giving and volunteer support are to our operations.

Funding Breakdown:

  • 57% – Grants
  • 28% – Program Income
  • 10% – Membership Dues
  • 6% – Donations
  • 8% – Fundraising
  • 1% – Interest

We continue to stretch every dollar—because we know that what we do changes lives.
